GUIDELINES FOR THE IMPORTATION OF ANIMALS
AND ANIMAL PRODUCTS INTO ST. LUCIA

One of the major roles of the Veterinary and Livestock Services Division (Veterinary Authority) Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is the protection of Saint Lucia from the entry and spread of exotic and zoonotic diseases of animals.

One of the mechanisms for such protection is the establishment of terms and conditions for imports.

Anyone who wishes to import any live animal, animal products and by-products into Saint Lucia must apply to the Veterinary Authority for an import permit.

The application is then reviewed and the deciding factor is fundamentally the disease status of the exporting country vis-à-vis the disease status of Saint Lucia.

An approved application is accompanied by the conditions that must be complied with, by the exporting country. Compulsory is the provision of a valid Veterinary Health Certificate issued by the Veterinary Authority of the exporting country. Failure to comply with any of the conditions will result in the detention or possible destruction.

It must be understood that an import permit can be declared void upon the emergence of disease in the exporting country.

All animals and animal products upon arrival into Saint Lucia must be inspected by the officials from the Veterinary and Livestock Services Division.
