STATISTICS UNIT
The purpose of the statistical sub-unit is to provide the effective storage and easy
retrieval of historical data and information needed to guide the process of agricultural development.
The statistical section is the sole unit responsible for the collection compilation, analysis
and presentation of all agricultural data at both the primary and secondary levels. The unit is also responsible for the dissemination of all the data that it collects and analyses.
In collaboration with the other agricultural institutions this unit conducts the Agricultural
Censuses and some Agricultural surveys.
Data collection on agricultural activities includes crop production (purchases and sales),
climatic conditions, livestock and livestock production, prices of agricultural produce and trade (imports and exports) of agricultural commodities (livestock included).
It’s scope is for the establishment of relevant databases for agricultural production
and marketing, land use, employment, technology application and credit.
Agricultural Statistics
Statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture is being published in two primary documents, the Agricultural Statistical Digest which provides information on the Agricultural Sector including Fishing, and the Prix Produit Review
which provides information on the marketing (quantity purchased and price by hotels and supermarkets) and exports of agricultural produce.
A more recent publication is the
2007 Saint Lucia Census of Agriculture Summary Report,
which contains information on agricultural holdings on the island. A number of statistical tables were generated from the data collected.
Also available are the 1996 Saint Lucia Census of Agriculture Report and the
1986 Saint Lucia Census of Agriculture Report.
